telc Deutsch B1
Who needs the exam?
The “telc Zertifikat Deutsch B1” follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is a requirement for receiving German citizenship. It must be presented alongside the application for naturalisation and is recognised as a high-value test by the Bundesamt für Migration and Flüchtlinge (BAMF). The exam B1 proves that you can competently use the German language in everyday situations, as well as in familiar professional surroundings.
Evidence of your B1 German language level within the CEFR framework is also necessary to register for a DSH preparation course at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, or for the Studienkolleg, for example. You must prove your ability by presenting a certificate, e.g. telc Deutsch B1. Certificates of participation are not accepted.
All telc exams at the school are carried out by our cooperation partner TANDEM-Frankfurt e.V.
How much is the exam?
The examination fee is € 175.
How may I register?
You may only register in person at our school. Please come by during office hours and bring the examination fee and your ID card or passport with you.

How is the exam structured?
The exam telc Zertifikat Deutsch B1 consists of a written part that lasts around three hours and includes reading, language elements (vocabulary and grammar), listening comprehension and writing, as well as a subsequent oral examination.
What are the minimum requirements to pass and when will I receive the results?
In order to pass the exam, the participants will need to achieve at least 60% of the maximum number of points in both the written as well as the oral examination. This corresponds to 135 points in the written part of the exam and 45 points in the oral exam.
It usually takes approx. 4 – 6 weeks until the exam results have arrived according to telc gGmbh. You can collect the results from our school – we will inform you via email upon their arrival.
Who can take the exam?
The exam “telc Zertifikat Deutsch B1” can be taken by the course participants at Zentrum für deutsche Sprache und Kultur / TANDEM Frankfurt e.V. as well as external participants. It is highly recommended to have completed the level B1 and to have prepared well for the examination, particularly for the written part of the exam (composing a letter) and the oral exam.
